I had a good day again today – almost 21 miles in 7.5 hours. I covered three stages in the guidebook over the past two days. It’s very flat, and few villages, so I’m not stopping as often. I’m gaining momentum back, but am cautious not to press too far too fast.

As I entered town here, a woman immediately spotted me and walked me halfway to her hotel and gave me clear directions for the rest of the way. I had an urge to go somewhere else just because she was so insistent, but it was €30 for a private room and bathroom, so I took it.

I feel weird using the hotels because I’m away from the rest of the group, but it’s nice to have some privacy every couple of days.

Finally, I ran into the father-daughter tandem from California that I’ve been on pace with since Los Arcos. They have a tighter deadline, so they rented bikes in Burgos and will drop them off in León. I feel fortunate that I should be able to walk Santiago in time, and I heard others talk about one-way bike rentals from Santiago to Finesterre. That may be my best option for reaching the coast.
