I’ve been on the move all week, and never got around to updating the blog. (Even to post two updates I already wrote!)
I arrived in Seville on Tuesday afternoon, and I could feel my pace slow down into vacation mode at that point. I took a walking tour Wednesday morning past many of the main attractions, but took a four hour siesta after lunch. I made to the Alcazaba (castle) and the cathedral on Thursday day. Both were remarkable! The rich history of the Alcazaba and the size of the Cathedral blew me away.
I left Seville for Córdoba on Thursday afternoon. I saw the castle and cathedral on Friday. The castle in Córdoba was underwhelming, but had remarkable gardens. The cathedral was fascinating though. Known as the meztiqua, it was a massive mosque allegedly with room for 40,000 people in prayer. When Christians took over the city, they rebuilt the central part of it into a cathedral. The blend of the two architectural styles creates a fascinating building.
Friday afternoon I was on a bus again, and arrived in Granada. Saturday was dedicated to the Alhambra. Wow! The complex is larger than a village, and there is a rich history stretching a thousand years. The defensive towers are intimidating, and the gardens and courtyards are breathtaking.
I don’t have many pictures to share at this point because I mostly used my DSLR since the Camino. I intend to share all those photos when I get home.
After seeing the cathedral this morning, I returned to Malaga – my last destination in Spain. The plan is to see the city tomorrow and relax on the beach Tuesday. Wednesday I fly to Belgium, and Friday I fly home. I can’t believe it’s almost over, but it’s been a great run.
