Where am I? Belorado
How far did I walk today? 22.4 km / 13.9 miles on the trail
I slept on the third floor last night, in a room without a fan and a window the size of a textbook. I was so tired that I still slept through the hot, stuffy conditions, but was not in the best mood this morning.
There was only one electrical outlet as well, so I could not charge my phone. I usually put the phone on airplane mode when I walk anyway, but I turned all the way off this morning. This was the first time I rebooted the phone since I got the Spanish SIM card, and the card was locked when I turned the phone back on.
It was a shorter walk today, so I tried to call the English language customer service line from a pay phone at the albergue. No luck.
I eventually found the online chat option on the carrier’s site. It was not easy, but my Spanish language skills eventually talked Petri on the other end to give me a code. It’s weird, I’ve walked nearly 150 miles in 10 days, but that’s what I was proud of today.
My friend from Austin called ahead to reserve beds for us at a nice albergue here in Belorado. It has a pool, but I didn’t get a chance to swim. It has a very relaxing atmosphere though.
Another goal of mine for the Camino was to simplify things. I’ve made progress in one strange area: e-mail. I was averaging 15-20 marketing e-mails a day, and kept deleting them. I’m talking 5-10 minutes everyday now to unsubscribe from all the junk mail. I’m already seeing it work, and I highly recommend trying it for a week.
By the time I finish tomorrow, I’ll be 1/3 of the way to Santiago. I still feel like I’m just starting to get a grip on this, but it’s flying by. I can’t fully describe the experience in writing, but thank you for spending a little time to follow along the journey!
