In August 2014, I watched The Way on the first true rain-out day of the summer while managing a swim club. The film had been sitting in my Netflix waitlist for a while, but I had no idea about the premise of the film or the Camino de Santiago. Fifteen minutes in, I was heading down a Google rabbit hole to learn more about the Camino. It immediately appealed to me as an authentic, inexpensive way to travel in Europe. After thinking about it for several months, I finally booked my flights in February for a summer trek across Spain.
While completing the 536 mile hike from the French Pyrenees to the western coast of Spain, I tried to post updates daily so family, friends, and students could follow along. This page includes links to these posts and an overview of the itinerary.
Unfortunately, the photos taken early in the trip on my cell phone did not make it home. (You needed to back up photos to iCloud within 30 days apparently.) However, all the photos from my Nikon and later cell phone photos from the trip are available here:
