Finisterre!

Where am I? Finisterre!
How far did I walk yesterday? 30 km / 18.5 miles

I made it! 536 miles from the French Pyrenees to the Atlantic coast of Spain. I opted against extending up to Muxia, and am enjoyed a day at the beach before returning to Santiago.

The walk went well yesterday, and the coast came into view by 11:30. While it was great to finally see a beach, this also meant it tempted me for the last 8 miles of the walk. I was patient though, and I reached Finisterre by 4:30.

I settled into a room just above the beach (€25), and went back down for a quick swim. Later on, I walked the last 2 miles to the lighthouse at the end of the cape.

Today was generally a lazy day. I got up around 10, grabbed breakfast, and went to the beach for an hour. It was cool watching others finish their Camino right in front of me. There some dances, some celebratory kisses, and a lot of smiles.

I went into town for a little bit, but spent most of the afternoon in my room checking up on the news and napping.

I went back to the beach around 7:00, and am still here waiting for the sun to set.

I’ll follow up with another post with more of a reflection, but I still can’t get over how fortunate I’ve been over the years. I have an amazing family that was so helpful throughout my planning and traveling. I have great friends and colleagues who checked in regularly with e-mails and comments of support. Finally, I really was surprised by how many people followed along with the blog.

I don’t know the numbers, but just anecdotal evidence from my folks surprised me. I made a Facebook post and let some colleagues know, but a number of people apparently heard 2nd or 3rd hand. So once again, thanks for tuning in and join the trip. If anyone reading is interested in walking the Camino themselves, I have a gently used guidebook I can lend out and will happily answer questions.

Tomorrow, I will take a bus back to Santiago for the festival of St. James. It will be my first time in a motor vehicle since the ride to Orrison on June 21. Crazy!

The trip will continue though, and I hope you can check in from time to time as I make my way through Andalusia and Belgium. Have a great weekend!
