Where am I? Terradillas de Los Templarios
How far did I walk today? 26.7 km / 16.5 miles officially (but really about 4k/2 mi. further)
Today began with an 11 mile stretch without any villages or towns. There was one mobile service station (read: minivan parked at picnic area selling food and drinks) at about the seven mile mark, and the first village you reach (Calzedera de la Cruces) was rather empty itself.
While this may sound desolate, I really enjoyed it. When you reach a village every 20 minutes, you’re always tempted to stop. This kept things simpler. I slept in today (7:45 departure), so I had the energy to keep moving. Fortunately, I remembered to fill my water bottles last night!
Today was the first time I got legitimately lost on the Camino. It was at the end of the day, leaving the village of Legious, about 3km from my destination. I misread the signs, and went the wrong direction going parallel to a different highway. When I tried to cut back through a wheat field, I found a farmer in a tractor. I was so far off, even he struggled to give me directions. In the end, it probably cost me 90 minutes and another 2-3 miles of walking.
I was unable to watch the Women’s World Cup final because it started at 1AM here, but I was excited to see the result! I’m probably getting greedy, but Swiss extradition of FIFA officials would sweeten the victory. For now though, an old friend posted this article on Facebook, and I wanted to share. I’m not a fan of specializing in a sport, and I think the WNT has proven it’s not necessary.
Finally, I reached another landmark today. I am officially half-finished my Camino! I still have a lot of walking left (235 miles to Santiago), but it’s amazing to see how far I’ve come so far. I’m feeling good, and should arrive in Santiago sometime between July 21-23.
Thanks again for reading along!
