For four months, I’ve been planning my Camino. So my excitement hit a peak as I walked up to my departure gate at Philadelphia International Airport. Then the phone rang. US Airways just informed me that my flight was canceled. Knowing I would get bumped to the next day and all my hotel and connecting flight reservations would be lost, I scrambled to customer service to see if I could catch the flight to Paris. They were happy to accommodate.

I still lost a hotel reservation and a Ryanair flight, but should still keep my night in St. Jean-Pied-de-Port.

The flight was cramped and I could not sleep with the aisle seat, but it was better than postponing. Charles de Gaulle airport was a circus, and then I learned my bag did not make it to Paris with me. Still in Philly 🙁

While I was tempted to stay the night in Paris and play tourist, I did not have my camera. Therefore, I decided to take the express bus to Gare Montparnesse to catch a train straight to Bayonne.

I did pack a change of clothes in my sling bag I carried on. After watching Candide on Saturday, I feel a little silly saying I’m still optimistic for the trip. I did my homework, and I think my back-up plan will leave me more rested for the first day of the Camino.
