Where Am I? Burgos
How far did I walk today? 26 km / 16 miles
It’s the first time in two weeks that I’ve been out after sundown. That seems weird to me, but the sun sets around 10 PM here, and the albergues usually have lights out by that time.
I really like it here in Burgos. It’s a larger city by Spanish standards (180,000 people), but small enough to still navigate. There were several pop-up beer gardens, and I caught the end of an outdoor blues concert. As I was looking for a dinner spot, I found several Camino friends celebrating a birthday.
As we were there, I realized I’m pretty fortunate. One guy I had dinner with yesterday visited a doctor today and was told he needed to take time off for his blisters. Another friend took a bus today to see a chiropractor, and still feels sharp pain. Even the birthday girl had a ice pack on her foot. Still, everyone was enjoying themselves and remain focused on moving on.
I visited the cathedral this afternoon, and it was remarkable. I cannot describe it clearly, but the art was magnificent without being overdone. It did not feel as overcrowded as some other cathedrals.
There are two other museums I had an interest in (Spanish Military Museum and the Museum of Human Evolution, but I think I’ll keep moving tomorrow and skip the rest day I was considering. I’m feeling good now, and I may need that day later.
Tomorrow, I start to trek into the Meseta. I’ve heard some people say it’s beautiful and others say to just bus past it. I’m at least intrigued to see it myself.
