Where am I? Ferrieros
How far did I walk today? 32.2 km / 20 miles
I called this albergue last night to reserve a bed, knowing it gets more crowded after Sarría. The woman insisted I needed to arrive by 3 PM in order to keep my reservation. While I liked the challenge of a time-trial, it led me to rush through Sarría when I arrived around 11 AM.
Sarría is the last gateway to join the Camino outside the 100 km distance needed to get the “Compestella” certificate. While not a big town, it reminded me of all the shops in St. Jean-Pied-de-Port for those just about to start.
As I pushed through the town, there was one service I forgot to use – an ATM. When I checked in here, I realized I only have €10 left in my wallet. I lucked out that this albergue accepts credit cards – most don’t – or I’d go to bed rather hungry! I should pass a bank tomorrow, and just need to remember to stop.
It’s a really nice modern albergue, but it is in a very rural location. The smell of manure is not as bad as some other spots today, but I saw a lot of farm animals today. There was even a pet ostrich!
I’ve really enjoyed these small villages and winding country roads, but I’m also looking forward to the city on Sunday!
