To the End of Land!

Where am I? Ponte Olveira
How far did I walk yesterday? 20 km / 12.4 miles
How far did I walk today? 32 km / 20 miles

Sorry for the delayed updates. I was very busy and very tired on Sunday, and there was no WiFi yesterday.

I slept in until 9:00 yesterday to celebrate arriving in Santiago, but decided a rest day would kill my momentum. It was a shorter day, 12 miles, but Negreias is generally the first stop on the way to Finnesterre anyway. I overslept again today as well, but made it 20 miles to Ponte Olveira by 5:15 PM.

I’m really winging it at this point since the guidebook stopped at Santiago. After breakfast, I went out to the Cathedral plaza and found the yellow arrows continuing out the opposite direction I entered on Sunday.

The Camino Finisterre has been very interesting so far. There is a nice rolling landscape – lots of hills to keep you awake, but nothing too difficult. However, there are fewer services than the Meseta. There may be an albergue every 7th village and a cafe/bar every 4th village. This makes some sense because there are fewer people walking here than the Camino France’s, but I can’t get used to it. I’m glad I continued on though.

I should arrive at Finisterre tomorrow. The town has a Latin name for “The end of land.” Some people continue from there north for one day to Muxia. I’m not sure if I will or not. At this point, I just hope for clear skies tomorrow. The sunset from Finisterre is supposedly amazing, but it has been cloudy the last several days. I’m cautiously optimistic though, as the weather has cooperated the entire trip so far.
